Day Trips / Overnighters / Short Term Campouts
These are the steps commonly taken by the scouts in preparing for a short-term trip. Events are normally posted in the Activity Book far in advance to allow for sign-ups and family planning. Please coordinate all activities with your family prior to committing to going on a scouting activity. Parents are encouraged to monitor the Activity Book and assist their scout in planning for upcoming activities.
Two-weeks prior to event:
1) Sign-up for activity in Activity Book.
2) Have permission slip signed by parents and returned to the event chairperson along with any monies required. Permission slips are mandatory.
One-week prior to event:
3) Attend preparation/planning meeting. Establish patrols for the outing and determine equipment and food requirements for trip.
4) Sign-up to bring equipment and food items.
5) Discuss any items specifically required for this activity. For example, a bathing suit or hiking boots.
6) If you will not be traveling to or from the event with the group inform the event chairperson. This is important in providing transportation for those attending.
Departure Day:
7) Arrive at least 15 minutes earlier than the established departure time.
8) Provide all required medications to event chairperson. Medications must be labeled with scouts name and instructions.
Returning:
9) Parents, please be on time to pick-up your scout.
This the basic outline of a day/short term trip. A pack inspection or other activity may be required prior to the departure date; please be aware of the specific requirements necessary for the activity.
Scouts and Parents: If you find that you are unable to attend an event you had previously signed up for please call the event chair or Scout Master as soon as possible, the night before the scheduled departure day if at all possible. Please be aware that your fellow scouts/scouters will be counting on you to provide the items you signed up for. All foods/equipment should be delivered to the meeting site on the morning of the trip. Parents-if youve signed up to help with transportation and find you will be unable to do so, please, call ASAP so that other arrangements may be made.
